344 💜(👪)🐕👨👩 🐈 NYMERIA *IN FOSTER NW ENGLAND/NORTH WALES (SEE MAP)*
🆘🆘🆘 EVERY DOG IN FOSTER MEANS ONE LESS WE CAN GET OUT OF DANGER IN ROMANIA AND SERBIA 🆘🆘🆘
This fuzzy bundle with the AMAZING ears was just a baby when she was pulled by us from June 2021’s Hunedoara kill list almost by accident! We had reserved another dog to save their life but when we went to get her there was another black pup in there, and we couldn’t leave her… We now have her with one of our fosters in the NW England/North Wales area. A kill list dog has no previous history, same as any abandoned dog, but it doesn’t means she doesn’t deserve her golden basket… and she’s a total sweetheart 🐕💜🐕💜
🆘🆘🆘CAN YOU HELP US FIND HER FOREVER PEOPLE?🆘🆘🆘
Nymeria’s vital statistics:
Age: docs say Sept 2020 but our vet think she's younger
Size/weight: she’s 48cm to the shoulder so medium, and is now 20kg because she's up to weight- but came to us very underweight and unwell so she's with one of our food specialist fosters. She's fully well now and full of beans! We think she’s a shepherd lurcher so a very unusual mix.
Fed on? Raw- red meat (beef lamb pork only as she is intolerant to chicken/grain).
Temperament: very bouncy and curious, very puppy like still, obedient and submissive by nature, sweet and friendly, very loving once she’s settled and gets to know you. She needs slow and gentle introduction with lots of reassurance to new people (if they have treats that will help!) and situations else she gets worried and sometimes growls/barks/hides/runs away. On a walk she’s happy to say hi to other dogs and people though, so the noises she sometimes makes are partly her being worried, and partly her shepherd breed coming out ‘defending’ the home, so people experienced with Shepherd breeds preferred for this amazing girl who will take this into account and keep reinforcing when she needs to guard and when it’s ok. She is NOT a guard dog at all, quietens down on command very easily, because she’s obedient and submissive and it’s probably why she was dumped and taken to the kill shelter in the first place.
Neuter: needs to be done, she was too young when she came over to be done according to our vet. We will book her in before she goes home ❤ and are raising funds for neuters if anyone wants to help out 🙂
DP test: done, negative
Full 4DX, giardiasis, leishmaniasis and brucellosis: DONE, NEGATIVE
first vaccines: up to date
flea tick and worm treatment: up to date
Rabies and booster: rabies due July 2024
LIFESTYLE, TEMPERAMENT and SKILLS
YAYs! (Her special skills/ stuff she likes)Other dogs? ✅✅ ✅ YES 🐕YES🐕 YES🐕 ✅✅ ✅ likes all, no matter what size, boys and girls… she lives with multiple smaller dogs and a couple the same size as her so is used to other dogs in the home too, so we would like her to have a resident buddy (or more! Provided you can give her the attention any new dog needs to settle, walk etc.) She’s very tolerant of bouncy pups (she is one!) and small dogs even playing around and trying to take her toys- she prefers to play with littles as she still thinks she’s a baby herself but also excellent with bigger dogs, very friendly girl with doggies.
Knows sit and wait ✅ ✅ ✅ EXCELLENT at commands, wants to please you
Sleeps (at night): ✅ ✅ ✅ in a dog bed downstairs in the lounge with her foster buddies but we think she’d like to sleep in the human’s bedroom especially if she ends up being a solo dog as she’s very human focused and likes being held till she goes to sleep
Walks on lead ✅ ✅ ✅ she picked up how to walk right by the end of her very first walk, very relaxed once she got the hang of it all, very smart girl, she’s usually focused on her walking human or doggy walk buddies but will say hi to dogs and humans passing by
Harness/collar ✅ ✅ ✅ again she was worried by them at first but is very good now
Affectionate? ✅✅ ✅YES YES YES, tummy rubs and cuddles in for fuss, would be a lap dog if she could, she’s desperate for someone to love. Loves her paws being gently held as she lies upside down with her legs in the air lurcher style
Likes a bed? ✅✅ ✅
Likes a blanket? ✅✅ ✅
Recalls ✅✅ ✅ excellent in general, still working to offlead levels with her but she’ll definitely have that nailed soon because she’s so smart
Toilet trained ✅ ✅ ✅
Plays with toys ✅✅ ✅ needed a LOT of help at the foster’s with this as she was shut up and ignored for 9 months at the ‘shelter’… but she loves toys now, all types.
Treats? ✅✅ ✅ Yes, loves a treat and because she was starved she’s very food oriented, so this could help with training but don’t rely on it as she will do commands without expecting a food reward ( and never leave a dog unsupervised with a bone)
Been on holiday? ✅✅ ✅ no as the foster has been working on getting her more comfy in a car which is improving
Grooming? ✅✅ She likes being brushed and will let you clip her claws if she wursts you and you are slow and gentle
Other animals ? ✅✅ She has seen squirrels and ducks 🦆 etc out on walks and isn’t bothered at all
Humans (male and female)? ✅✅ Yes but again needs time to know you’re safe to come and say hi to 👨👩
Good around food? ✅ yes, but sometimes forgets her manners, because she was starving in the shelter for 9 months and had a food intolerance so will sometimes search for food as well (keep food out of her reach!) she’s 1000 times better than she was and better all the time. She’s not food reactive at all, other dogs could push her off her bowl without her retaliating because she’s submissive but we’d rather than did not happen in her forever home as that happened in the shelter all the time 🙁
Being picked up? ✅ Not a great fan of it but tolerates it, her submissive nature lets you do these necessary things. Some goes for baths.
Likes water (swimming etc)? ✅ she’s only seen puddles and a lake, doesn’t seem worried by them and isn’t bothered by the rain. We don’t know if she likes swimming yet.
HMMMs (will likely take time)Friendly when she first meets you 🟨 once she gets to know you she’s a total sweetheart, so she needs slow and gentle intros to new things and people, like many dogs do, as she grumbles/growls and runs away and hides sometimes when she’s stressed
Kids 🟨 yes if older/very used to dogs and let her come to them only when she’s ready- so older12+ / calmer children 8+ (the youngest we advise) resident who are very dog savvy and know to give a dog time to come over and engage rather than go over to her- Roxy lives in a house with a garden with 2 very dog experienced kids ages 8 and 10 so is used to smaller humans 👪
Car 🟨 she’s scared of the car but will be lifted in, she gets out herself, so very gentle work will need to be done here, she’s much better than she was thanks to tireless work with the foster
NOPEs (and things she doesn’t do)Cats test: ❌no sorry, none resident, she doesn’t seem prey reactive on walks on in the garden but we don’t home dogs with cats unless both the dogs and the cats are provable ok with each other. 🐈 (same goes for squirrels.) Home visits to test this COULD be possible with sensible precautions in place.
Chews? ❌ not now as soon as she was told what was ok to chew and what was not she stopped
Separation anxiety ❌ she cries a little mosty because one of her foster buddies complains when his foster mum goes out but soon settles (is left 3 hours max )
doesn’t like hats 🧢❌ the dog catchers wear these hats, and they are NOT kind to the dogs, so a dislike of hats especially caps is sadly usual for a lot of dogs.
Type of home we'd like for her
When she first came home, she settled quite slowly, and hid a lot- but make no mistake! ALL new dogs are stressed when they go somewhere new especially without their mum, so even if she seems ok, she like ALL dogs will need time to settle/decompress. NY was quiet and careful in her new home for a month, then seemed to feel much better and explore her new world.
Full live support will of course be provided by our team 🙂 but to keep any stress levels she has to a minimum, we are trying to find a place as similar to what she has now.
Right now she has free roam downstairs, and sleeps downstairs in the lounge with her foster buddies. We would like a similar forever home as possible to what she's used to for continuity.
She has direct access to a secure garden, fenced between 6 and 8 feet but has never shown an indication to do a runner. She sleeps in a bed, she likes to have a bed in the hall and an arm chair (for sleeping o and under!) for chilling and processing! How she squeezes under the chair we don't know but she loves it and often goes to bed under there. She has her own bowls and never shares them with other dogs at the same time (house rules!) though once they're empty all the doggies have a good lick with no issue. And the dogs are given lots of jobs and tasks with or without treats to reinforce cooperation and socialisation which would need to carry on in the forever home.
She lives in a suburban area, in an off-main but through road, with the sea and woods/parks close by (5 minute walk/drive), it's quite quiet but a fair amount of vehicles and pedestrians pass through 15-20 a day). Ny has quite a few dogs to play with, boys and girls, old and young, big and small but we'd like less dogs in the forever home so she can have more attention, she could probably cope with being one of up to 3 dogs, (more at a push but preferably no more than 3 total with her) but no solo homes please-she's a follower and needs a confident and chilled doggy resident to show her the new house rules for toilet etc. Ny's very up for play though so playful resident dogs would also work.
She needs lots of reinforcing of socialisation the Forster does with her all the time in her new home to give her security and reassurance, and due to her young age and the 'rescue' didn't socialise her with puppies, just adults 🙁 we've done loads of socialising with her now and she's super accepting of new dogs of all ages 🙂 🙂 No intact males though as they worry her, (she runs away) probably due to bad experiences in the 'shelter'. She has no regular time/day of walking routine as yet but does like to go, so would likely fit in to the walks pattern in the forever home with minimal effort. The foster would work with you to acclimatise her to your walk routine as we find it’s easier to walk neutrally in foster then get them used to the forever home routine than teach them two different routines.
Ny needs a patient home that gets when she's wary at first, but super loyal and steadfast once she knows you. Like most Sheps, and lurchers, they take their time to make up their minds, but once they love you, they love for life ❤
She would benefit from a dog of any nature age or size in the home if the dog would like a buddy to hang out with, play and walk with (resident dog can be mellow/happy/playful/bouncy etc) to show her the new house rules. She likes the dogs where she lives (sensible introductions to new dogs must be done), she loves to play, and now she knows walks, loves them too. Do you live by some cool woods and have a Ny shaped space in your home? So an in home buddy is preferred (and see below about our little Anna!) but we will consider solo dog homes if walked and socialised with other dogs and humans regularly under old and new Animal Welfare rules.
Full advice and updates provided by the rescue of course as she decompresses. Previous adopters especially welcome. She’s especially friendly with our tiny foster girl 306 ANNA 💜 who she lives with, they were buddies almost from day 1, and though they do make the oddest couple, we will accept joint adoption application for both girls together.
COSTS TO KEEP THEM at the foster's.Each dog costs the rescue £650 minimum before they even reach the UK, but once they are here they need food equipment and regular vet care. We need £45 a month to cover this sponsorship and are happy to share this between up to 15 Aunties and Uncles paying £3 each per month💜
