We start the process with the an online or email chat, though we do also have an application form, to see if you’d be a good fit, and if that goes well, help get the house check up and running.
We cater for people with all sorts of disabilities and other challenges that may stand in the way of them adopting a dog from other rescues. All adoption applications are exclusive (one dog, one application at a time) and case-by-case to get the dog the best possible forever home.
Effective from 01.04.2024, due to Brexit and subsequently increased checks, and DEFRA tests due to brucellosis outbreaks in the UK.
Prices will have to rise because of Brexit and the necessity for two new blood tests in the UK pre travel to ensure we comply with all the new laws coming into place, for brucellosis at the APHA weybridge.
For a look at how much it actually costs to rescue a dog please check out our blog also available in large print pdf format here.
PUPPIES and DOGS To adopt. 'Adoption fee' is £475 (Romania) £525 (Serbia)* **. (See NOTES below)
There are NO HIDDEN EXTRA COSTS, the amount you donate as part of the adoption contract is fixed until further notice, and this donation amount includes VAT by law.
the pup's travel cost (which has increased by 25% due to Brexit and new rules for travelling across the Channel)
the titre test (all dogs in Serbia by law, Romanian dogs who’ve been with us over a year), The SAT brucellosis test done at the APHA UK Weybridge (Romania and Serbia)
legal necessities such as VAT.
The rescue pays for/covers/undertakes:
We have held down our prices for as long as we could since 2021, far longer than other rescues. But the new brucellosis tests that must be done in the UK from the end of April 2024 are expensive and no dog can come to the UK without them.
*For dogs already in the UK before 01.01.2024 in UK foster that are available to adopt the adoption fee is reduced from the old rate before April 2024, to £350, as all the post Brexit charges did not apply, but you MUST check their location map and be in area or prepared to travel to the North West of England/North Wales to meet the dog(s) in their foster home(s). All dogs in Romania and Serbia come directly to your door with live 24/7 advice from your rescue support team- NO
car park or service station meet ups and you should avoid any ‘rescue’ that asks you to leave your home and drive to collect a dog from such a venue that is not an official kennel or rescue/foster residence, with live support from our rescue team throughout.
** to FAST TRACK your UK brucellosis test the fee charged by DEFRA is an extra £75.30 on top of their brucellosis test charges. www.gov.uk/guidance/laboratory-test-pricelists It is paid directly to DEFRA and refunded back to you if they are unable to fast track it (they can’t guarantee it). We do our best to ensure there is no rush to get these tests done before they leave so fast tracking usually is not necessary.
The costs for one dog alone would set you back £1000 privately in the UK (not including food, treatment should they get sick, or anything to walk, feed, entertain and care for the dog with), and costs over 65% of this in Romania. We never ask adopters to pay for these costs but of course any donations for their care before they come home to you are very welcome.
FOR THIS WE NEED DONATIONS and without our Aunties and Uncles (donors) all these dogs would be dead. You can become an Auntie or Uncle by using the ‘donate' button at the top of the page (laptops and PCs) or by clicking the three lines and scrolling down the options (phones etc.) We have a non profit shop here on the website where the items you buy help our doggies too, as well as being able to select a donation of your choice. We also have PayPal and bank transfer options for donations. And we have a very active fundraising group on Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/lorasauntiesanduncles
For more on recent and accurate spaying and neutering costs alone in the UK check out this late 2023 survey: https:// manypets.com/uk/articles/how-much-does-it-cost-to-neutera-dog/
The dogs now WILL NOT leave for their new homes until they are six months old minimum and/or old enough to be neutered (this is a Brexit legal requirement apart from reasons of medical necessity or advanced age, for which they would be certificated as exempt) and as our dogs are in our own foster full homes and semi foster homes NOT huge noisy ‘private fosters’ that are essentially kennels no different from the kill cages they were saved from, or still stuck in grim public ‘shelters’ waiting for direct ‘distance adoptions’ being fed the cheapest food possible, their welfare is already at the highest possible level, apart from not having their forever people yet.
That’s where you come in. You are, as an adopter, involved in this every step of the way from when you first chat to us, with regular updates and plenty of time to ask any and all questions you have. You also get added to the Happy Bus live Skype chat (The Happy Bus is what the dogs travel in to get to their forever homes) once you pass your house check. Then you stay on the chat to watch your baby come home, as well have lots of fun live and interactive quizzes for all the family created by our team to help you do those final preparations for your forever dog.
IMPORTANT For the first TWO days the dog must be in ‘DEFRA quarantine’ and NOT be taken for a walk or let off a lead in the garden when going to the toilet. This is a legal requirement and MUST be done by all adopters else the dog has to be removed from the residence.
