Christy, along with her tiny 3 month old babies, were thrown away TWICE by their owners, so their time RAN OUT ON THE KILL LISTS! We have them ALL available to adopt now. (See their albums 452 💙CURLEY (DOB Feb 2023) and 448 💜CALLIE now VASI (sister, in foster NW England see map on her album for adoption area preferences) for more info.)
Christy was a baby herself (about 1) when she had her own babies and only 12kg, now thanks to good food and care we think she is small end of medium (around 15kg) adult and is fully grown now.
We are a black dog rescue so we agreed to save Callie her daughter and the dog who was protecting her (450 💜CHERRY, also available to adopt) then we found out there was a mum (Christy) and son (Curley) as well (both mostly white, but we don’t split family groups) so we ended up taking them all! Christy is the most sweet and energetic special soul, you can see where her pups get their fantastic nature from, desperate for human comfort in the kill cages, and now, even from the people who were going to end her life 🙁
451 💜CHRISTY, her daughter 448 💜CALLIE now VASI,and her brother 452 💙CURLEY are still so trusting despite being binned in the street by their owners so the dogcatchers could get them and drag them off to the ‘shelter’. Then the ‘owners’ claimed them back and was going to come and collect them, but changed their minds at the last minute so off the poor pups went into the kill cages where only a rescue like us had the authority to pull them. How ANYONE can do this KNOWING it was a death sentence to all three of them is beyond us. But we have them now.
Christy only has ONE lovely auntie, so she needs THIRTEEN more sponsors donating just £3 a month to cover her basic care.
She’d been SEPARATED from her babies which made her super distressed (and you can believe we got them reunited asap but in the meantime our lovely 450 💜CHERRY (see her album) protected 451 💜CHRISTY’s babies from the bigger angry dogs, so yes Cherry came with us too!)
The wonderful Lora’s Luck Aunties and Uncles (donors and sponsors) have helped us to raise funds for travelling to the foster as it was a RACE AGAINST TIME TO GET THEM OUT, and we sent our best and kindest dog collector to get them the very same day!
The Lora’s Luck Aunties and Uncles also donated for the pot for the vet bill for prep before she goes to the UK foster, the happy bus, (we still need donations of just SEVEN £3 tickets for her spay!) and some of her new things at the foster (bed, blanket, toys, collar, lead and harness.) We COULD NOT continue to rescue without our Aunties and Uncles. (If you want to join them, please request to join our group after reading the rules!

AVAILABLE TO ADOPT!451 💜CHRISTY’s vital statistics:
Age: approx April 2022 (will double check with vets)
Size/weight: 13.5kg on 30/10/2023, 50cm to the shoulder 30/10/2023 (will weigh again at next full vet check, we think she’s on 15kg now and full grown) She’s long legged, short haired and built like a whippet so we think they’re lurchers.
Fed on? in Romania she is having kibble, wet food and raw as a treat 2-2 times a week
Temperament: very happy, sweet and friendly, bouncy, energetic, human focused- loves to engage, jump up and chase, like the baby she really is, but hadn’t had the chance to be (yet!)
Neuter: done
DP test: done
first vaccines: done May 2023, next done 10 June
flea tick and worm treatment: first done June 2023 and monthly
Rabies and booster: done July 2023 3 weeks after her second vaccine
YAYs! (Her special skills/ stuff she likes)Sleeps (at night): ✅ ✅ ✅ in a dog kennel outside at the foster’s with her boy, and Cherry (heated, roofed and enclosed with her own mini kennel)
Walks on lead ✅ ✅ ✅ slip lead yes, she’s getting very good
Likes a bed? ✅✅ ✅
Likes a blanket? ✅✅ ✅ yes but is prone to eating them sometimes like her daughter 😉
Recalls offlead ✅✅ ✅ (excellent in the play park)
Plays with toys ✅✅ ✅ Favourite toys- plushies but also loves a tug toy, and corners of blankets!
Treats? ✅✅ ✅ Yes, loves a treat so this could help with training (never leave a dog unsupervised with a bone)
Friendly when she first meets you ✅✅ ✅ VERY, maybe too much so, she’s a total sweetheart, so she needs slow and gentle intros to new things and people, like many dogs do, as she grumbles and crawls on her tummy sometimes when she’s stressed/nervous/unsure what you want her to do
Affectionate? ✅✅ ✅ yes, tummy rubs and cuddles/leans for fuss, loves attention
Humans (male and female)? ✅✅✅ LOVES EVERYBODY she has met so far, typical innocent pup 👨👩
Being picked up? ✅✅ used to being handled and picked up, can be a bit of a wriggler!
Other dogs? ✅✅ yes likes all, no matter what size, boys and girls… she lives with her buddy Cherry and her son so a range of dogs and ages, so we would like her to have a resident buddy to learn the house rules from if possible, though she is a people pleaser and SUPER FAST to learn so would do well as a solo. (Provided you can give her the attention any new dog needs to settle, walk etc and continue her excellent socialisation with other dogs and humans.)
Good around food? ✅✅ learned the dinner time routine very fast and eats with no issue at the same time as multiple dogs
Other animals ? ✅✅she has seen sheep🐑, horses🐎, ducks 🦆 etc from a distance in Romania and isn’t bothered at all
Kids ✅✅ yes, and we have video of her playing, chilling and cuddling up with kids (we will need the same from you), as she really likes the resident children at the foster. So if there are older/very used to dogs and let him come to them only, and only after a few days (older12+ / calmer children 8+ is the youngest we usually advise but we could go younger IF the kids are used to dogs who JUMP and RUN like any other young lurcher, and the adults will put time into showing her when it’s ok to bounce) resident who are very dog savvy and know to give a dog time to come over and engage rather than go over to her, that would work very well as she is very used to smaller humans. She may be a bit clingy with the new kids as she’ll be missing the foster’s kids, her own kids and Cherry 👪 she is A BOUNCY PUPPY at less than 2 years old and needs cuddles more than her more independent daughter who, with Cherry, faced off the big dogs in the kill cages (Callie now Vasi) so kids must be patient and leave her to settle for a few days, not over fuss her as she’s super affectionate and will quest for fuss, too much too soon causes fear bonding so she MUST be given some days with a lot of time to himself in her bed daily to sleep and decompress UNDISTURBED.
Cat test? ✅✅ Yes, resident, just ask the applications team (and we will need to see similar videos of your cats with dogs.) 🐈
HMMMs (will likely take time)Knows sit and wait 🟨 bit hit and miss but improves every time but she’s VERY quick to learn! She doesn’t know her name. Might be good at click/whistle training (but beware! Other people will have the same sounding clickers and whistles as you so always have back up verbal commands and hand signals for your dog)
Toilet trained 🟨 still is outside most of the time but she’s smart and her daughter learned how to go outside pretty much while living inside inside 7 days at arriving her (experienced) UK foster.
Harness 🟨 we got her one early in the year thanks to donations and we’ll try and get her used to it and her collar asap, these items will come home with her as well for continuity
Chews? 🟨 she’s only just out of puppyhood, and will need to learn what to chew and what not, she will need this reinforcing in her forever home
Likes being groomed (including claws)? 🟨 working on it, has accepted a comb briefly now we’ve been able to send over some things thanks to donations from the Lora’s Luck aunties and uncles, but it’s exciting so she might nibble the brush or comb at first!
NOPEs (and things she doesn’t do/we don’t know yet)Likes water (swimming etc)? ❌ don’t know yet
Car ❌ don’t know yet, will update when she goes in one
Separation anxiety ❌ we don’t know yet, once she’s home the forever people should work on leaving her unattended gently and patiently so she does not develop it, this MUST continue in the forever home
doesn’t like hats 🧢❌ the dog catchers/kill cage workers wear these hats, and they are NOT kind to the dogs, so a dislike of hats especially caps is sadly usual for a lot of dogs. Will update once we know what she’s like with them
Been on holiday? ❌
NEEDSWhen she first came to our foster from the kill cages, she settled VERY fast, but make no mistake! ALL new dogs are stressed when they go somewhere new especially without their mum, so even if she seems ok, she like ALL dogs will need time to settle/decompress. Christy was super bouncy faking being ok in the foster’s for 3 days, then seemed to feel much better and explore her new world and chill a bit though she loves a loony lurcher half hour! Full live support will of course be provided by our team 🙂 but to keep any stress levels she has to a minimum, we are trying to find a place as similar to what she has now.
Once she knows you/ is given time to process and understand the new situation she is in, she’s a sweet, friendly, playful and loving girl, eager to please, SUPER SUPER smart and fast to learn too, so we hope she would not take too long to decompress with the right guidance from her new (forever) humans (note with many dogs this can be three months and more.) She has lived with her babies, then them and Cherry all her life. If she wants quiet time she takes herself off to her bed or sofa ‘safe space’, like a good girl so this would need to continue on her foster home- somewhere quieter for her to chill in, in her bed that’s not where people pass through all the time (like a corner space or similar).
She would benefit from a dog of any nature age or size (but over 10kg best we think as she may want to ‘play mum’ with much smaller dogs thinking they’re puppies) in the home if the dog would like a buddy to hang out with, play and walk with (resident dog can be mellow/happy/playful/bouncy etc) to show her the new house rules. She likes the dogs where she lives (sensible introductions to new dogs must be done), she loves to play with her toys and is earning how to engage with the other dogs, which are all ages and all sizes. Do you live in a semi urban to semi rural area, with low to medium traffic, by some cool woods or maybe even a beach and have a Christy shaped space in your home? So an in home buddy is preferred but we will consider solo dog homes if walked and socialised with other dogs and humans regularly under old and new Animal Welfare rules.
She’s used to a high fence and enclosed garden area and we’d like this to continue in her foster home. So secure non shared gardens only sorry for toilet/recall training. She is not left outside unattended. She does know stairs but only in a house so a house + garden set up would be best for her, as she does love being a rally racer round the foster’s play park (!) for some continuity for her as she adjusts to a new place. We can show test videos with kids from when she was in Romania (privately due to GDPR) but we must see how your kids are with dogs too as she’s the kind of dog that needs slow and gentle introductions to anything/anyone new, but once she’s decided she’s the sweetest cuddle bug ever. She is still young and very puppyish still so does jump up and bounce around.
Adopters would be responsible for teaching her good meeting any new and/or smaller humans rules, where the loo is in your home, how walks go in your home and how to engage with food and play with humans and dogs the way you do it in your home.
Please donate to help her today, share the post everywhere, (or even foster or volunteer time to help us continue our work!)
